2005-2006 Basketball

Juniors  Place Second at IHSA State Tournament
March 10-11, 2006 in Peoria at March Madness

Friday March 10th Confluence Junior Center Coast Wheelchair Basketball team defeated the 2nd seeded Peoria Wildcats 30-26 in their first of three round robin games at the IHSA State Wheelchair Basketball Championships. Scoring for Coast was spread evenly between Senior Justin Siebert, and 7th graders, James Clark and Cameron Oestringer who each had 10 points. Peoria threatened Coast several times closing leads and tying the game once in the second half. Scoring for Peoria was Kevin McKee with 14, Stefan Hall with 8, and Bre Smith with 4.

In their second game Coast faced the #1 Seeds Windy City Warriors, a big team in numbers and size. They also have many seniors. The first five minutes Coast played tough defense and held the score to 2-2. The Warriors size proved to be too much for Coast and they gradually spread their lead resulting in a final score of 41-12.

Saturday March 11th at 1:30 Coast defeated  the Rockford Chariots 49-14 to take second place with a 2-1 round robin record. Scoring came from senior Justin Siebert, 16 points, and 7th graders James Clark (16 pts), Cameron Oestringer (11 pts), and Colin DeWitt (6 pts).

Game Time                   Teams Listed First Are Home Teams

8:30                             Iowa Chairiots 42 vs Confluence 45
10:00                           Confluence 41 vs Rams 53
11:30                           Iowa Chairiots 36 vs Wheelhawks 47
1:00                             Confluence 21 vs Wheelhawks 38
2:30                             Iowa Chairiots 44 vs Rams 91

Coast again had a close game with the Chairiots, but remained on top by three. Better teamwork, a day of practice (yesterday's games) and the additional leadership of Matt Glowacki allowed Coast to close the gaps on games against the Rams and Wheelhawks. We are looking forward to more competition after the first of the year. Pictures
